Take Heart heads to the Top End to film!
With ongoing support from the National Heart Foundation of Australia we are escaping a bit of bleak Melbourne winter and heading to the ‘top end’! Earlier this year we began collaborating with RHDAustralia at Menzies School of Health Research on ‘Take Heart- The Quest to Rid the World of Rheumatic Heart Disease’ to identify participants in the Northern Territory and with the new funding confirmed we are heading north in August.
This is a very important next step in filming for the project. Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD) is preventable but it currently affects over 15 million people worldwide and Australia has one of the highest recorded rates of RHD despite the disease being almost eradicated in most developed countries.
Over a three year period Take Heart will announce this global health crisis to new audiences around the world, provide a context for the staggering scale and scope of RHD, create empathy for the human cost and follow the stories of a diverse group of people living with Acute Rheumatic Fever (ARF) and RHD. The series is designed to generate insights into how ARF can be eliminated globally and the burden of RHD can be minimized.
We are currently calling for nominations from RHD initiatives of all types in Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific seeking up to US$20,000 in program funding which we can encourage audiences to support through our communications activities over the coming 12 months.
To nominate a program please email us to receive further information.
A big thanks to National Heart Foundation of Australia, World Heart Federation and RHDAustralia at Menzies School of Health Research for their ongoing support of the project.
